The Perfect Set Recording Course with Spider Saloff and David Bloom

Make your musical dream happen: your own professionally-produced CD. It’s time to elevate your vocal artistry to a world-class level. In eight months, hone your craft with guided rehearsals and recitals with a pro rhythm section; plus a multi-camera DVD of your performance at the capstone concert. Come through for yourself.

In this 8-month course students learn how to: choose appropriate 8-tune repertoire (either standards or originals), collaborate on the arrangements, scat, rehearse and record with the band, and be involved in the mixing session.

At completion of the course each musician will have a set of music that is fully arranged, notated (books for each instrument), rehearsed, and professionally recorded, ready to be performed anywhere. This experience will take students to a professional level of insight, preparation, musical judgment and performance. This procedure will become the model for the way that all subsequent sets and recordings will be produced.

Designed for intermediate to professional vocalists (not for beginners), this immersive 8-month course meets on Saturday afternoons, April - November 2025.

The esteemed instructors Spider Saloff and David Bloom have over eight decades of combined experience and will guide you to fulfill your potential–from concepts and choosing tunes, developing your personal style with rehearsing, performing and recording.

Questions and Answers:

How does it work? David Bloom has developed a custom process to guide you through every step, with incremental demands and astonishing results.

What are the Steps?

Repertoire: Together, we choose the tunes that love you. We start with tunes you bring and build from there. We recommend tunes that will fit your voice and style and work with you to customize your set.

Rehearsal: In a supportive group setting, you rehearse with a professional piano accompanist as well as a rhythm section (piano, bass and drums). You receive invaluable feedback as you develop your vocal delivery, phrasing, timing, and interpretation of your tunes. Here is where you polish your eight tunes to perfection.

Performer Development: You hone your delivery and stage presence with six public recitals throughout the course, which are video-taped in documentary style, and then there are debriefing sessions where you receive feedback. The recitals are held at Piano Forte on Michigan Ave. in downtown Chicago.

Professional Performance: Now that you’re ready, perform your top three tunes at the capstone concert, and receive a professional multi-camera DVD.

Professional Recording: Now that you’re ready, enter a professional studio, and capture your tunes with a seasoned rhythm section with confidence. Graphic design is included to complete your CD package.
