Jazz Tap Courses

Find Your Groove

Ages: teen/adult

Pre-requisites: None

Dress: None, we prefer you have tap shoes but you can make do in some hardsoled
shoes

Session: 2 hour workshop

This introductory tap workshop is perfect for beginning dancers. Weʼll spend the
afternoon learning some basic tap technique and applying it to rhythmic combinations.
Students will be encouraged to tap into their natural understanding of rhythm in a
collaborative environment.

Amount: $40  (register for yourself or a friend!)

Students will learn:

  • Basic stationary and traveling tap technique
  • One 8-16 count combination
  • Listening and following skills
  • Tap language and basic terminology
  • Counting skills
  • Whether or not they would enjoy full session tap classes

Tap Tech I

Ages: teen/adult

Pre-requisites: None

Dress Code: None, but students must have a pair of tap shoes

Session: 8 weeks, one hour sessions

This introductory tap class is perfect for anyone whoʼs often wondered about the world of
tap dancing but is afraid to give it a shot. Students are walked gently through the world
of tap technique while learning how to give their natural rhythm an appropriate outlet.
This class encourages personal expression of rhythm as we learn the foundations of the
art of tap.

Amount: $185 (register)

Students will learn:

  • Basic stationary tap technique
  • Traveling tap steps
  • How to transfer weight properly
  • Tap language and terminology
  • Counting for tap
  • Beginning tap combinations
  • Listening and following skills

(If you feel you are comfortable with the above techniques, you are prepared for Tap Tech II)

Junior Grooves

Ages: 7-12

Pre-requisites: None

Dress Code: None, but students must have a pair of tap shoes

Session: 8 weeks, 45 minute sessions

This is an excellent introduction to the art of tap dance for the energetic young dancer.
In this beginning level class, students are encouraged to foster a very supportive class
environment. Dancers learn the basics of tap technique while being challenged to find
an understanding of rhythm in their everyday environment and draw upon it to create
their own rhythmic creations.

Students will learn:

  • Basic stationary tap technique
  • Traveling tap steps
  • How to transfer weight properly
  • Tap language and terminology
  • Counting for tap
  • Beginning Tap Combinations
  • Listening and following skills
  • How to find rhythm in everyday life
  • How to create our own rhythms from our imaginations
