In our beginner classes we take tremendous care to provide a strong foundation for the student who wants to make music non-professionally as well as those who aspire to play professionally. Whether you want to sing, play, compose or arrange, the most important thing is that you start with very knowledgeable supportive teachers who derive their fulfillment from your success. Intro to Jazz
This NEW Bloom School class is a gentle introduction to jazz for any type of musician. We understand that a lot of mistakes are always made when undertaking something new and we support those initial efforts with an overall ambiance of fun and acceptance. Very simple tunes are played in a small group. This is a great course to stick your proverbial big toe in the jazz pond to see how it feels to you. The class ends with the class playing a short afternoon concert.

Jazz Vocals I
Scat, sing, mumble, slur; it doesn't matter what you say as long as you mean it! Learn to sing and scat with tremendous authority and direction. The Jazz Vocals course takes singers through a unique experience of deep imagination and expression. A professional pianist accompanies the class throughout its duration, and a bassist and drummer are added for the last day. Through recording, playback, and assessment, by the students and the instructor, a new awareness and standard of performance is created. The course culminates with a final concert where each singer performs two pieces with a professional rhythm section.

Music Theory / Ear Training I
Music theory is not ALL bookwork. Our hands on approach engages the student in singing, clapping and notating examples played on the piano. Exposure to the sounds of the basic elements of music and rhythm, melody and harmony is but part of the aim of the course. Our main objective is bringing the student to realize the practical application of the theory presented by applying what they know into musical contexts rather than into abstract ideas.

Jazz Awareness
Learn about the great jazz musicians and music from 1950-1975 in this four-week course. Learn why these musicians have endured, how their playing has affected the development of music and musicians alike, and why we define them as great. Greatly deepen your recognition and appreciation of the different elements involved in making music that endures through time. Be involved in deep listening and discussion with a guide that has a comprehensive knowledge and unbounded passion for jazz. Great jazz, that is.

Bloom's Blues I
Learn to play the blues. This course not only gives you the tools you need to comp and solo, but shows you how it all works and how blues and jazz are linked.
